Tackling the Housing Issue in Northeast Indiana

As a member of the Fort Wayne Media Collaborative, I report on the topical and local issue of housing in northeast Indiana. My first two articles covered a housing summit and an interview with our keynote speaker, Dr. Matthew Desmond of the Eviction Lab.

I also had the privilege of getting to know some young people who aged out of foster care for this article about their housing options. I’ve also explored information about housing cooperatives and community land trusts.

Read more at the FWMC website and check out my videos on Tiktok for the Fort Wayne Media Collaborative (before it’s forever banned).

I moved out-of-state in fall 2023 but have continued to work for the Collaborative. Here are some recent articles about setting up a TOD Deed on your home to give it directly to a beneficiary; what it’s like to rent in our Midwestern neighbor Illinois; and how foreclosures are unfortunately on the rise in Indiana in particular and the US in general.

Upcoming articles will cover mobile home renting and ownership in Northeast Indiana; Hoosiers who live in multigenerational households and how that all works out (or doesn’t); an investigation finding out if any land trusts or community land trusts are in the works in our area; and the lucky homeowners who own their homes free and clear, both around the country and in Fort Wayne.
